Thank you to mattress retail giant Sit ‘n Sleep for donating 30 brand new mattresses for Aspiranet’s Transitional Aged Youth moving out of foster care into their first apartments.
By working together, Sit ‘n Sleep and Aspiranet are helping our Transitional Aged Youth build a bridge between foster care and independence. Most young adults have parents to support them as they transition to adulthood. For many youth in foster care, the transition out of foster care can mean losing critical support and resources, with 1 in 3 who exit foster care in California experiencing homelessness within 24 months. To help raise awareness for these Transitional Aged Youth (TAY), Sit ‘n Sleep has strengthened its commitment to Southern California’s most vulnerable young adults through this partnership.
Larry Miller, CEO of Sit ‘n Sleep commented, “As young people pursuing college degrees and careers, the last thing they should be worrying about is whether or not they will have a roof over their head and a bed to sleep on every night. They deserve stability and a comfortable home setting.”
The first youth to receive a mattress from Sit ‘n Sleep is 18-year old Alexis, who enjoyed shopping for bedding for her new bed in her first apartment. In her thank you note to Larry Miller, Alexis wrote, “I’d like to take the time to thank you for donating a mattress to Aspiranet. Because of you, I now can get hours of rest on a comfortable bed.”
Sit ‘n Sleep’s support to provide comfort and hope means the world to our young adults!
