Aspiranet is a non-profit organization with a big mission: to help children, youth, and families in California thrive. We've been making a difference in communities across the state since 1975.
As an intern, you'll be part of an organization that supports over 35,000 people each year through a variety of programs including:
Intensive home based services
Community and prevention programs
Residential care
Foster care, adoption, and transitional-aged youth services
Mental health services
Our work is challenging but incredibly rewarding. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of young people and families.
Our internship program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the fields of Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, Social Work, Psychiatric Technicians, Child Wellness Coaching, and Early Childhood Education. Beyond individual discipline expertise, we cultivate a strong foundation in teamwork and collaboration.
Our curriculum emphasizes a systems perspective, focusing on how youth interact within their environments. Students will learn to employ evidence-based practices while delivering ethical, competent, equitable, inclusive, and just services to the diverse communities we serve.
By bringing together students from various disciplines, we create a rich learning environment that prepares them to work effectively in real-world settings.
Interns must pass a criminal background check and a DMV records check.

Interns will develop advanced clinical skills, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and intervention. They will gain experience working with diverse populations and learn to apply ethical and legal standards to practice. Additionally, interns will develop strong case management and documentation abilities. The program emphasizes a focus on evidence-based practices, cultural competence, and the integration of theory into practice.
BSW/MSW Generalist Internships
Our BSW/MSW generalist internship program provides students with hands-on experience in social work practice, preparing them for careers in the field. The program emphasizes a generalist approach, focusing on working with individuals, families, groups, and communities. Students will gain exposure to various practice settings and learn to apply ethical and evidence-based principles to their work. We offer opportunities for macro-level projects and encourage student participation in group supervision and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Psychiatric Technician Internships
Our Psychiatric Technician internship prepares students for licensure by providing comprehensive training in mental health care. Interns will develop skills in patient assessment, interviewing, observation, and developing care plans. They will also learn about crisis intervention, medication administration, and management of assaultive or combative clients. Interns will also gain hands-on experience in therapeutic techniques, recreation activities, group therapy, and behavior management. A strong emphasis is placed on ethical and legal considerations within the field.
Child Wellness Coach Internships
Our Child Wellness Coach internship prepares students for certification by providing training in wellness promotion, education, and care coordination. Interns will learn to deliver group and individual support programs focused on mental health literacy, life skills, and wellness. Additionally, they will gain experience in screening and referring youth to appropriate behavioral health services.
The program emphasizes the importance of collaboration with other professionals, including school personnel and mental health providers. Interns will also learn about crisis management, safety protocols, and administrative tasks related to behavioral health support.
Early Childhood Educator Internships
Our Early Childhood Educator internship prepares students for certification with a focus on school-age children. The program aligns with national and state standards to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective teaching and care.
Interns will develop expertise in child development, learning, and assessment.
