Support Partners Enhanced Foster Care South Bay and Ventura

Special people supporting children with special needs

The amount of children who are removed from their homes each day due to abusive or neglectful circumstances is astonishing. Being removed from the one place they have come to know can be traumatic, and for those with the added concern of a developmental disability, can be even more disorienting.

In California, nearly 68,000 children under the age of 18 are in foster care and about 500,000 children are in placement nationwide. While the number of foster care homes has been diminishing over time, there are still thousands, some with developmental disabilities, in the state who are in need of permanent, loving homes. Support Partners Program offers encouragement and resources to families wanting to care for these children who require special attention.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, developmental disabilities are a diverse group of severe chronic conditions that are due to mental and/or physical impairments. These developmental disabilities often cause those affected to have problems with major life activities such as language, learning, mobility, and even independent living. Raising a child with a developmental disability can be an intricate process, so we partner foster families with social workers, aides, therapists, physicians, attorneys, and possibly birth family members.

Aspiranet is always looking for compassionate and loving foster families who are open to supporting children with developmental disabilities. Serving Santa Clara, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, and Ventura Counties, we have had great success implementing the Support Partners Program. These children deserve a home full of love with people who want to see them succeed in life.
