History of Community Relationships

Founded in 1971, as Moss Beach Homes for Boys, we began as a six-bed group home in the small coastal town of Moss Beach, California. It was established as the result of one man’s dream “to become part of the solution, not the problem,” when a probation officer saw youth growing up in juvenile hall instead of less restrictive environments. And with that, Moss Beach Homes was born.

Now, Aspiranet is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community-based organization.  From its inception as a six-bed group, the agency today is a network of programs and services to more than 9,300 children and families each year, with over 700 employees throughout the state of California.  With its 35 locations and headquartered in South San Franciscoto, Aspiranet has become one of the largest non-profit social service agencies in California.

Aspiranet's highly skilled staff enables the agency to provide a variety of services that address the needs of children, families and communities.  Service delivery is provided through six categories of programming – Adoption, Foster Care, Family, Education, Afterschool, and Community Collaboratives.  This diverse combination of programs allows Aspiranet to provide a broad circle of care that raises hope and empower communities.  At the heart of each service is a common goal: to create permanent, lifelong connections for children and families. We do this with every child in every service category, be it connecting older adults to work in local elementary schools or finding the right home or residential treatment for a child in foster care or teaching new and fun skills to youth in after-school programs, keeping them safe and out of gangs, Aspiranet empowers communities to raise hope to all who live there.
